Why do we go by the name Christ Covenant ?

WHAT IS A COVENANT?

  • a promise
  • a pledge
  • a solemn agreement
  • a last will and testament

The name “COVENANT” declares that we want to live in a relationship of promise with God and with other believers. The name reminds us of what God has done for us and what we must do for one another.

WHAT HAS GOD PROMISED US?

We can know Him;
“This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. "I will put my law in their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will a man teach his brother saying, ’Know the Lord,' because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest," (Jeremiah 31:33-34)

He is our light;
“I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles,” (Isaiah 42:6)

He gives us peace;
“I will make a covenant of peace with them……” (Ezekiel 34:25)

He forgives our sin;
“This cup is the new covenant of my blood which is poured out for you.” (Luke 22:20)

WHAT DO WE PROMISE ONE ANOTHER?

  • To love one another
  • To be open and honest
  • To encourage one another
  • To pray for one another
  • To serve one another
  • To teach one another
  • To admonish one another

“He has made us competent as ministers of the new covenant-not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills but the Spirit gives life.” (II Corinthians 3:6)

“Each of you should look not only to your interests, but also to the interests of others.” (Philippians 2:4)

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom.” (Colossians 3:16)

As members of His church, we must live in covenant relation with each other ever, dependent on God’s Spirit... serving one another, encouraging one another, and building each other up in the faith.
